Elder mistreatment is emerging as a significant health problem for a growing elderly population. Although abuse and neglect are not new phenomena, the combination of an aging population and clarification of what constitutes abuse have produced a greater awareness of this problem. It may be part of the cycle of family abuse that involves child and spouse abuse, or it may result from financial problems, inadequate housing, mental illness, alcoholism, drug abuse, and other factors associated with the abuser and the older adult.
Specific topics covered:
Types of Abuse
Recognition of Victims and Perpetrators
Evaluation
