Gingivitis
Gingivitis is a condition caused by bacterial plaque which
results in inflammation in marginal gum tissue. Daily and adequate plaque
control can reverse gingivitis.
Signs of Gingivitis
- Gums bleed when brushing teeth. Even minor amounts of bleeding
are not normal.
- Red, swollen or tender gums
- Detachment of gums from the teeth
- Loose teeth or teeth that change position
- Any change in the way your teeth fit together when you bite or
a change in the fit of partial dentures.
- Chronic bad breath or bad taste
Many chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, immunosupressant
disease) as well as medications (e.g. hypertensive drugs, seizure drugs,
estrogen replacement therapy) may aggravate gingivitis.

Tip: Prevent gingivitis by brushing and flossing
your teeth after each meal.
